About Us

History

Our story starts way back in the 1960’s, when the association was formed by students at Carleton University. In 1979, it was federally incorporated as the Jamaican (Ottawa) Community Association Inc.

1962 – WE WERE FORMED
1978 – INCORPORATED THE JAMAICAN (OTTAWA) COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
1979 – INCORPORATED AS THE JAMAICAN (OTTAWA) COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION INC.
1987 – BECAME PART OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JAMAICANS AND SUPPORTIVE ORGANIZATIONS IN CANADA INC. 

The Jamaican (Ottawa) Community Association Inc. J(O)CA Inc. is a registered not-for-profit organization whose mission is to engage residents in community stewardship; to impact decisions that affect the community; to raise awareness; to foster a sense of spirit and pride; and to encourage participation in community issues, solutions, projects and events.

We are at the heart of the community, offering diverse and relevant activities activities for all. It is a place where neighbours meet, learn and volunteer. 

The association provides physical intellectual, social and cultural services and programs that contribute to individual and community health and development.

Our Mission

To empower and uplift the Jamaican community in Ottawa and preserve our rich culture and heritage through collaboration, empowerment and community development. We are committed to fostering a resilient and prosperous community where every individual feels included and supported.
